In pursuant to the its Establishment Act, 2006, Section 4 subsection A  which empowers it to license and regulate both Hajj and Umrah operation in Nigeria, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, ( NAHCON ) yesterday (07/02/2017) presented operating license to Gombe state.

The presentation which took place at the Headquarters of the commission in Abuja was presided over by the Chairman/CEO, Barr. Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammad, MON. FCIA.

In his welcome address, the NAHCON boss described the event as a watershed as it was the first time that states were being given the operation license.

He stated that the granting of operating license is expected to spur the states towards greater service to their pilgrims and therefore enjoined them to abide by the conditions set out for the granting of the license.

In his response,  the Executive Secretary of Gombe State pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Usman Gurawa expressed appreciation for the gesture stressing that the state would work very hard to justify the licensing and to make sure that the 2017 witness greater improvement in services rendered to the pilgrims noting that since the Commission’s verification visit, a lot has been put to upgrade its physical infrastructures as well as its human capital development with a view to improve the capacity of the board’s welfare services to the pilgrims.

The operating license is valid for 2years and is of three different categories, A, B and C

It would be recalled that the Commission constituted a committee in December 2016 to draw up a template for the granting of license. The committee visited the 36 states, the FCT and the Armed forces to inspect the facilities and administrative structures of the boards as part of assessment for qualification.
